Wild Mackerel Shakshuka

Wild Mackerel Shakshuka


  • 2 Cups of Your Favorite Tomato, Pasta or pre-made Shakshuka sauce
  • 3-4 Large Eggs
  • 1 can Safe Catch Wild Mackerel in EVOO
  • Salt and Pepper to taste
  • Squeeze of Fresh Lemon Juice
  • Crumbled Feta (Sprinkle with Your Heart)
  • Fresh Chopped Dill (or herbs of choice – we love parsley too!)
  • Optional: Red Pepper Flakes

Tools you'll need

  • 10-12-inch Cast Iron or Oven-Safe Pan
  • Measuring Cups
  • Knife
  • Cutting Board
  • Mixing Dish
  • Fork
  • Spatula
  • Serving Spoon
  • Oven


  • Preheat oven to 400.
  • Add your tomato sauce to your pan and use a rubber spatula to spread out sauce evenly amongst the pan.
  • Crack your eggs throughout on top of your sauce. Add salt and pepper to taste.
  • Open a can of Safe Catch Mackerel and add all contents to a small mixing dish. Use a fork to mash together mackerel and can liquids together as if you were making a tuna salad. (Don’t Drain!!)
  • Gently add forkfuls of your mackerel around each egg on top of the sauce.
  • Place in oven and bake for 15-20 minute or until the egg whites are cooked and the sauce is bubbling.
  • Remove from oven and let stand for a few moments before topping with fresh squeezed lemon juice, crumbled feta, herbs and/or red pepper flakes.


For this dish, you can use a traditional pre-made or homemade Shakshuka sauce – or to cut cost and up the convenience factor, you can use jarred pasta or tomato sauce.

Serve it in a bowl and enjoy (to keep this dish Keto) or serve with toast or pita bread for dipping!
